DFI nF2 U400S-AL memory slots - the saga continues

Postby eagle3 » Thu Dec 17, 2009 9:08 am

Having recuperated my bro's pc which was locking up for a passtime I have come to the conclusion that this board can only handle one memory stick in the third memory slot. Also setting memory timings to AUTO seems to be the only option for running in sync at spd timings. And 200fsb is no-go at all.

Current setup:
The said board
Barton XP 2600 at stock 11.5x167
Corsair value 1024MB in slot 1(furthest from cpu) @334ddr Five memtest passes but memtest shows timings to be 2 3 3 7 and not 2.5 3 3 7 according to genie bios. However cpu-z and everest agree with the bios. 1T command rate.
Corsair 450 psu
Fx5200 gfx

Everest memory benchmark:
Read 2367
Write 906
Latency 112.7

I can't decide whether it's the board or the bios that's a pos. Both maybe. The fastest it seems to want to go is around 180fsb but I'll see how this Corsair module I've just installed fairs.

Hope you get it sorted.

I reckon the XP2600+ Barton is of the unlocked kind, like mine?

If so, might start off with a lower multi, like 10x, then attempt the 167 and 200MHz, with the spd manually set to 2.5 3 3 8.

Any modded BIOSes available for this board, eg like

AS far I know this board was sort of left for dead at birth. I don't think there is even an official bios update.

Anyway it seems stable at stock with the Corsair stick.

It's a locked xp2600 which I've had at 200 on a kt600 board at 1.75v or thereabouts.

The auto memory timings change to 2.5 3 3 8 at 177MHz for some reason, so I'll give it at go at 175. That's 2012MHz.
It will be going back to my brother who just wants a stable pc, understandably. I feel a bit bad jerking substandard goods into him.

Found references on the net re this board, people using Lanparty A and hacked Lanparty B BIOSes in this board, enabling it for high overclocks.

I think that was Charlie. I remember him putting a lanparty bios or something on it but never managed dual channel. SA had this board but gave up on it. Those are the only two references I found just doing another search.

No I think I'll leave it at that. It's OCCT stable at default vcore, ran SuperPi 32M in just under 50 minutes.

Yep, that was Charlie. The bios is not really compatible due to the Southbridge on that board which is a MCPT2 with native Nvidia SATA raid. I also owned one of those boards and as Eagle said, they were abandoned at birth, as were many other company's boards that had that southbridge.

If you choose to use that bios, you will need a PCI IDE or SATA card, a PCI sound card, and a PCI USB card, as nothing on the I/O will work. The only thing that will work is the PS2 ports I think. Charlie had a 100 page thread at DFI street on the woes of that board. Mine just expired one day, but it was never stable in dual channel mode either.
