1.4Ghz Celeron or 1.0Ghz Coppermine

Postby Iznougoud » Wed Feb 25, 2009 10:54 am

Went through a box of salvaged CPUs in the process of "refurbishing" an old PIII Coppermine system (1.0Ghz at the moment), and found that I do have a multitude of Intel PIIIs. One of which an Intel Celeron (SL6C6) at 1.4Ghz (and 100Mhz FSB for some strange reason). What I'm considering now is, would there be any point in replacing the 1.0Ghz Coppermine (133Mhz FSB) with the 1.4Ghz Celeron (100Mhz)?

Celery with 100MHz bus sounds about right

If you can keep it cool, you can usually run the celery at 14x133 for about 1.8Ghz...
Ya'll think us folk from the country's real funny-like, dontcha?

Keyword being to keep it cool.. But of course, at 1.8Ghz with a 133Mhz FSB, there would be no question of what's to prefer.. ;)

A Celeron 1.4GHz is a Tualatin core, so the choice of motherboards is somewhat limited. AFAIK, the tualatin supporting boards were made only for a short timeperiod prior to the first P4s began their debut.

Exactly correct. I still have a couple Tualatin's, but nothing to run them in. :(
I got stuff......alot of stuff.

So, maybe this isn't a dilemma after all then  Anyway, I better check what CPUs that motherboard supports before any further considerations. And what better way than to throw the Tualatin in for a test run..?

Yep, in this case. Just wanted to share a thought, might be nothing wrong with the CPU or motherboard if its just a case of Tualatin incompability, causing no POST.

Ah well, as it turned out I have one CPU with no place to go. But that wasn't much of a surprise, was it? ;)
