Project K8 Quad.

Alright no more price check this has been morphed into a overclocking/benching project thread.

So far I have the motherboard and CPU's. Turns out I got CCBBE 0618's so that's a plus.

HSF's and memory will be here Mon. (tomorrow) expect results that night!

You can also follow my progress http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=336070 if you wish.

Re: Price check on pair of Opteron 275.

See if the ones shown on the following ebay page are the same or similar processors.

Looks like buy-it-now price is $24, shipped free, for one or $48 for a pair. They were probably much more than that when first on the market, right? These are "buy-it-now or best offer" listings so they could go for even less.

http://computers.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_ ... osacat=164
..

The prices shown seem awfully low for what once must have been very nice top of the line models.

Yup. That's about what I thought. Think I'll keep 'em, get a nice used dual 940 board and OC the piss out of them. I have a K8N-DRE/SATA but no OC options, very vanilla board. On the up-side Clockgen works with it.

Thanks

You should be able to use A64 Tweaker to adjust memory settings you don't have in the bios. There are lots of spots at the bot for 940's.

Oh yes I know! Going to try and rack up some points. The nice thing is I can pick various single core 200 series for b/t 10-20 a piece so I can potentially do a lot of damage.

Thanks a bunch for the A64 Tweaker info. I'd forgotten about that little proggy.

Any other software tweaking suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Maybe one of the bosses can move this to a more appropriate sub-forum if needed.

This is fine where it's at. I don't know if the Asus Ai booster will allow voltage changes on that board. If that has a Award bios, I might be able to tweak it and un-hide or add options.

Okay. She is up and running. They sent me the wrong memory so I just picked up a stick DDR 400 ECC Micron while I was out and about. The chipset gets really hot so I'll be modding the cooler tomorrow before getting down to brass tacks. More extensive pics as well.

Anyway I promised results and here they are:

Good for 1.5

That's all this old man feels like doing tonight.

Thats cool, But you better back off your HT multi to 4x or lower.
I take it CPU-Z is reading Vdimm instead of Vcore. If you get the chance, I'd like to see a NuMC run on that setup. I'm curious as to how 2x2 opty's compare to a phenom in raw power. I do video editing, and my phenom will encode a 2hr video in standard format in 3 minutes, while my X2 4200 takes 9 minutes to do the same job.

Yeah I backed it off. I was just playing with nTune there and forgot to set the HT link to 4x..

I think CPU-Z is actually combining the 2 processors Vcore as they are running @ 1.25v in BIOS.

Here's my latest wPrime http://hwbot.org/community/submission/954807_optytrooper_wprime_32m_2x_opteron_275_90nm_15sec_296ms

15 sec and change @ 2.7ish ain't to shabby for 5 year old chips IMO.

See what I can do w/NuMC ASAP.

It has an AMI BIOS. Wouldn't happen to know how to mod those to @ least allow minimal overclocking adjustments? Or anyone? I requested a mod in some other forums but thye were all ??? you don't want a SLIC mod for Windows activation? We'll we don't know how to do that! Meh.. Except Rebels Haven and they are not accepting registration right now. I imagine the features would have to be added in as opposed to simply unlocked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 That would be "My Digital Life". They can't do what you want.
RH won't do it either. It's not a common OC'able board.

It's not as easy as that, especially without a board here to try it on, and extra bios chips.
I got stuff......alot of stuff.

I pretty much figured that. Thought I take a stab @ asking though, now I know. Well the good news is these boards are cheap as dirt so I suppose I could grab a couple to practice with @ a later date.
